Rules of the Dojo
1. Bow as you enter and leave the dojo. This is a symbol of respect for the flag of our country, the martial arts, the instructors, the dojo and the other students.

2. When you are in the dojo be attentive. This is your opportunity to learn by watching and by doing. Maintain an attentive posture. Do not lean on the walls or stand with you arms folded.

3. Arrive early for class. Use the time before class to stretch and practice. Higher belts are available to answer questions regarding basics and katas.

4. If you arrive during another class (regular or introductory) be considerate. You may stretch and warm up, but do not distract the class be talking or working with the school equipment. If you have someone watching the class, have them leave the dojo area if a conversation is necessary between them and anyone else. This keeps the class attention on the instructor.

5. Do not wear socks or shoes in the dojo. We have available for purchase, martial art shoes that can be worn only in the dojo.

6. Do not chew gum, drink anything but water, or eat in the dojo.

7. When the instructor is addressing the class, pay attention. Speak only when you are spoken to, or if you have a question for the instructor.

8. Turn away from the instructor to adjust your belt or uniform. This is a sign of respect.

9. Learn to sit and rise from a sitting position without the use of your hands.

10. Always ask permission prior to leaving the dojo during class.

11. If you have to miss a class, inform the instructors ahead of time.

12. Pads are required for sparring. The minimum equipment is a helmet, gloves, footpads, and protective cup. Shin pads are recommended. This is for your protection, and for the safety of your opponent. Sparring equipment is recommended by the time you are an orange belt.

13. School age students are expected to maintain an acceptable grade point average. The instructors will check report cards. All A’s and B’s receive an embroidered star to display on the uniform.

14. Any health concern should be reported to the instructors when you come to class. If for some reason you are injured during class, notify the instructor immediately. Your health and safety are important to us.

15. Tuition should be paid on time. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, notify Mr. Rich or Mr. Josh promptly so arrangements can be made. If your account falls behind and arrangements have not been made, you will not be allowed to attend class or be promoted until your payments you have been caught up.

16. There is to be NO SMOKING in or around the dojo or during school functions. Karate is for your health. Help us keep you healthy.

17. Students are required to wear the full uniform (Gi top, Gi Pants and Belt); all must be in good shape.

18. Profanity, disrespect, and other forms of unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated. We teach our students respect for themselves and for each other.

19. Watches, rings, necklaces, or dangling earrings are not allowed in the dojo. This is for the protection of yourself and other students.
