 The Sesquicentennial Gala

The Sesquicentennial Gala
by Robin Ann

I had been looking forward to the Sesquicentennial Gala since its inception. No matter who, what, when, where or how - I was sure I would make my time with all the other benefactors memorable. And that is what I did.

My gala evening began at 9pm. Dinner had already been served and eaten - dessert was on the way and the band had just begun to play. The room was filled with many beautiful people, all dressed to the nines. The Mayor was dancing with his wife Jan among several other happy couples while tables conversed with eloquent chatter.

With my camera in hand, I set out to get something... anything. I knew my time was limited and the room seemed to be clearing. I was sure the event would complete earlier than the midnight forecast. I wondered what I would capture for history.

I made my way around the room - meeting most of these Nashuans for the first time. I was able to converse with many a happy Nashuan. I was also able to mingle with many of our cities highest officials and ultimately save their presence for the heritage of Nashua. I certainly wished the night could have lasted longer - so I would have more opportunities to meet and speak with so many of these supportive people.

The night ended all too quickly, as most enchantments do. Some will say the event was a flop; others will criticize its location, or the number of attendees. I will say the gala contributed to the ultimate prize of the sesquicentennial - a complete year of celebrative events. I'm glad to say I was in attendance. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
